Hotel Maria - Hotel - Area information

Helsingborg City is an oasis for old and young alike. It offers a choice of almost 500 shops and more than 160 restaurants, bars, nightclubs and cafes. Hotel Maria is in the heart of Helsingborg. The rectangular city centre runs parallel with the sea. Kullagatan, the first pedestrian street in Scandinavia, lies 50 feet from the hotel. The city is a treasure trove of shops of all kinds. Once the sun has set, the pulse in the city starts beating. Helsingborg has genuine English pubs and exclusive bars where you can mingle under cut-glass chandeliers, or enjoy the casino and music. There are some trendy and stylish discos in town, some spectacular temples of entertainment and exclusive nightclubs too, just around the corner from Hotel Maria. A visit to Helsingborg would not be complete without a trip to Sofiero, particularly in May and June when the rhododendron is in full bloom. Fredriksdal Museum and Gardens is one of Sweden´s most famous open-air museums, with an outstanding botanical garden. The Kärnan Tower, Helsingborg's most famous landmark, has guarded the city for over 600 years. The Dunker Culture Centre displays various temporary exhibitions along with objects from the town's museum collections.

The hotel is located in the city centre of Helsingborg with walking distance to all major attractions. Five minutes walk to train and buses as well as to ferries to Denmark and Norway. Travel instructions to Hotel Maria from the central station, Kuntpunkten, for arrivals with boat, train or bus: 1. Exit the station on the main entrance. You will see Elite Hotel Marina Plaza on your left hand side and a busy road called Järnvägsgatan on your right hand side. Turn right towards the crossing on Järnvägsgatan and cross the street towards the store 7-eleven. 2. Ones crossed the street, turn left and follow Järnvägsgatan for about 200m until you reached another street called S. Kyrkogatan. Turn right on S. Kyrkogatan and continue for about 300m until you see a large church on your left hand side. You are now on Mariagatan. 3. The hotel entrance is located opposite the church’s main entrance between two restaurants, Olsons Skafferi och Hjalmars Kök.

Enjoy your holiday in the best area in Helsingborg in a large house situated on the beach, just north of city centre. Here, you will find large personally decorated lounges with open fireplaces and beautiful terraces facing the sea. Guests from all over the world gather here, including Japan, Australia, South Africa, Brazil and the USA. The Guest-House is open all year. You can enjoy our breakfast buffet with local specialities in the sun, have a swim in the sea (only 2 miles across the strait to Denmark) with the Hamlet castle of Kronborg facing you. You can have lunch in one of the many restaurants nearby, go for a walk in the nature reserve outside our garden just a mile from the Royal summer castle of Sofiero, and relax with a massage in the afternoon. No smoking within the garden or indoors.

All our rooms contain very comfortable beds whether they are queen size, king size or twin beds. One child is always allowed to sleep in the parent’s bed at a surcharge of SEK 100. If you book a room for more than 2 guests, the other guests will sleep in 1 - 2 roll-away extra beds. Cleaning is only included on the day of departure however extra cleaning can be arranged at a surcharge.

A large breakfast buffet, with a Scandinavian touch, is served to B&B guests each morning beetwen 09.00-10.00. It is possible to order half-board via catering from Sweden's first TV chef! The dining room, kitchenette and terrace tables are available for catered or microwaved meals between 12.00 - 22.00. There is an excellent restaurant 200 yards away and is open all year round while during May-September several restaurants and cafe´s operate that are less than a mile away. Helsingborg takes pride in having the most outdoor eateries and some of the leading restaurants in Sweden. We have bargain deals with the restaurant Gastro, which during 2008 was ranked as having the 9th best food in Sweden and won the "most worth a visit" award!

Sundets Pärla Guest House is situated on the gold coast of Southern Sweden. Just outside our garden you can bathe in the sea or pony trek, jog or simply sight see along the long separate paths of a large nature reserve. Half a mile walk south along the beach you will find the Marina, passing lots of nice bars and restaurants on your walk, or head north half a mile to the Royal Summer Castle and Gardens. Ferries to Denmark leaves 3 times an hour and the crossing takes only 20 minutes. The area is renowned for pottery, crafts and many concerts of various kinds as well as gastronomy. There is deep sea fishing from the quay with waters 40 yards deep. There are 5 golf courses in the city area.

By Car: - Take the E4 and exit for Helsingborg, North. - Follow the road for centrum (centre). - The road ends in a T-junction with the theatre in front of you. Turn right for Sofiero. - Continue for Drottninggatan, along the coast. The street bends under a railway bridge, and you will see the Pire, pictured above, at the far end. - Pass the beach restaurant, Pålsjö Krog, and the bus stop. The guest house is 100 yards away (Drottningg 216 A). Alternatively, take the E4 and exit Helsingborg, South. - Follow signs for centrum. The road changes it's name to Drottninggatan at the City Hall. - Continue as above. From the ferry port: - Follow signs for centrum and continue onto Drottninggatan. - Continue as above. By ferry/train/bus station Knutpunkten NB! free ride if you show valid train ticket!: - Cross the street to the bus stop and take the number 219 bus heading north for Domsten. - After 10 minutes, get off at bus stop "Dag Hammarsköld väg". (The name will appear digitally on the bus. When it does, press the bell to stop.) This is stop no 8 after you entered the bus. - Walk 100 yards north towards a big blue sign that says Sundets Pärla B&B.

If the booking is regarding more than 1 room or longer than 2 nights the remaining 80%, after deposit has been paid, will be charged 4 weeks before arrival. In case of cancellation 2 weeks prior to date of arrival 50% of the charged amount will be refunded. If canceled later, 30% of the charged amount will be refunded. Please inform the guest house at least one day before arrival at what time you would like to arrive. You will find the hotel's telephone number in your booking confirmation. Check-in time is between 15:00-18:00. Arrivals later or earlier than this need to be arranged with the guest house and will be charged an additional cost of SEK 200. Hostel rooms for 2 have a queensize bed of great comfort. Rooms for more than 2 have roll away-sparebeds for the other guests. Twin beds instead of double beds available at a surcharge. NB that Twin Room has private bathroom ensuite but other rooms have shared toilets and shared showers. Dorm rooms have roll-away spare beds,maximum 4 guests in same dorm. Dorm beds with hotel comfort available at a surcharge. The hostel guest must bring bedlinen; sheets, duvet cover, pillow cover and towels. The bed must be made up at check in, will be inspected. Sleeping bags are not allowed. Bedlinen can be rented at a surcharge. Microwave facilities only.

Please inform the hostel at least one day before arrival at what time you would like to arrive. You will find the hostel's telephone number in your booking confirmation. 20 % of the total will be charged to your credit card immediately. This is not refundable. The reminder is charged 4 weeks before arrival date if you are staying more than 3 nights or in more than 2 rooms, otherwise at check-in.
